Submit your Blog to Search Engines

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Lately, blog optimization has been catching on like a wild fire. People have been blogging about their increase in search engine traffic due to SEO and others are starting to realize that they need to optimize their blog. The basic goal of search engine optimization is make your blog more visible to search engines. Search Engine, computer software that compiles lists of documents, most commonly those on the World Wide Web (WWW), and the contents of those documents. Search engines respond to a user entry, or query, by searching the lists and displaying a list of documents (called Web sites when on the WWW) that match the search query. Some search engines include the opening portion of the text of Web pages in their lists, but others include only the titles or addresses (known as Universal Resource Locators, or URL) of Web pages. Some search engines occur apart from the WWW, indexing documents on a local area network (LAN) or other system. You can do all the best onsite SEO strategies in the world and still get no where because the Search Engines have not found you to start with. Each search engine has a way of letting it know about your site - submit your blog URL to be included in the index. Please note that this takes time and perhaps a quicker and more effective way is to get linked to by a site already indexed by the search engine. You might also like to tryout some of the services around that offer to submit your sites/blog to search engines for you I’d be wary of paying for this sort of service though. I never have and seem to do ok. Every day Search Engines like Google send many millions of web users to websites in their index. While there are plenty of Web 2.0 web indexing services around that are increasing in popularity the fact is that search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN are still the biggest source of traffic to websites and blogs on the web.

WebCrawler for Search Engines

Monday, June 22, 2009

WebCrawler, a search engine, computer software program for locating World Wide Web (WWW) information. WebCrawler was developed by University of Washington graduate student Brian Pinkerton in 1994 but is now maintained by America Online, Inc., a commercial Internet service provider. WebCrawler uses a program called a spider. A spider sometimes called robot, softbot, spiderbot, wanderer, crawler, and fish. A Spider is a computer program that automatically monitors documents. Most Web pages include at least one link (an automatic connection) to another Web page, and some include hundreds of links. A spider takes advantage of this structure by starting at one Web page and working its way out by following every link on a Web page and then following every link provided by the new Web pages. Some spiders save the URL (Uniform Resource Locator), or address, of every Web page they visit. These spiders are used by search engines to build indexes of Web pages that users can access to search for information on a particular topic. Indexing spiders, as they are called, often also store the title and partial or complete text of a Web page so users can do more detailed searches. A WebCrawler uses a program called spider to search the WWW for new documents (called Web pages) and to index all the words in the documents. A person using WebCrawler enters a keyword or phrase. The WebCrawler provides a list of all documents that contain the word(s) or phrase for that particular page. Each title is linked to the document's site on the WWW, so users can go directly from the list to any document on the list and find more useful information about the documents.

Using Search Engine Optimization on Blog

Monday, June 15, 2009

Using SEO to optimize your blog should be your primary goal. Search engine optimization is highly important for the homepage. Since they can interfere with one another the first decision you must make is to decide what type of page you wish to focus upon. The steps you use for SEO on your blog are quite different from the category or content page. It depends on your competition and the theme of your website in making your decision about the type of SEO you want to employ. You only have one index page, one chance, and this is a significant determinant in the SEO you choose. Choosing your blog to spotlight requires a crackerjack of a keyword or phrase. The first step is to do your SEO keyword research. This can be done using a keyword research tool such as: Google’s AdWords, Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery, etc…here you can determine the popularity of your keyword. Then scrutinize your competition. If all the SEO keywords are fairly general you may even consider choosing to optimize your content page or category page instead. If you decide that your SEO keywords and phrases are specific, popular, and unique enough to take on your competition then by all means optimize your blog. Anchor text is highly important for your inbound links because it is used in rankings. It could take years to build your blog’s popularity using SEO keywords alone. Making your blog SEO keywords abundant in the site name or tag title really is quite enough to make your index page rank but employ your usual search engine optimization on the page, as well. This includes placing your keywords in the text, headers, etc. on the homepage. It will help to back link all the other pages on your site to the homepage. This is good SEO which builds inbound links. This will aid PageRank to find your index page and seek out your anchor text. Your index page is important to the search engine optimization of your blog.

SEO tips for blogs

Sunday, June 7, 2009

  1. Use primary keywords in the title of your posts
If your primary keyword is html help make sure that the word html and help appear in your blog headers such as H1 and H2 tags as well as the title of each of your posts.
  2. Use secondary keywords in the body of your post
If you want to get listed for secondary keywords use them infrequently in the body of your post. The theory is that the more times a keyword appears within a Webpage, the more relevant the page is likely to be for someone searching those keywords. But do not overdo this by repeating the same keywords over and over again. Google bots can find out if a keyword is too frequent on a page and might just remove your site from their index.
  3. Use your keywords in the anchor text of links
Use primary and secondary keywords in the anchor text of links when linking to other blog posts or to other pages of your blog. Keywords in links have more importance than simple text.
  4. Update your blog frequently
Update your blog frequently using all the rules mentioned above and your blog will surely get top rankings in a short time.
  5. Make sure search engines can spider your blog easily
Make sure your navigation bar is present on all pages of your blog. Your previous posts or at least the popular ones should be linked to all pages so they get spidered easily.
  6. Get backlinks from other blogs
You need as many links as possible to link back to your posts or blog because it will help you build PageRank and get your blog to rank higher in search engines. The more links you have the higher your blog is ranked in Technorati helping your blog to be found easily.
